National Trust digital membership card: how to add it to your phone
National Trust members can keep their membership card in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet instead of carrying the plastic one. It takes a minute to set up in My Account, opens without signal, and you can go back to a physical card if you change your mind.

How to add your National Trust card to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet
- 1
Sign in to My Account on the National Trust website
Use the email address linked to your membership. The card is tied to that account, so the second adult on a joint membership can register their own login too.
- 2
Open My memberships and choose Add card to wallet
You will see a preview of the card with your name, membership type and membership number. Check the details before you go on.
- 3
Add it to Apple Wallet on iPhone
Scan the QR code on the page with your iPhone’s Camera app and tap the Wallet prompt. The card is saved to Apple Wallet.
- 4
Or add it to Google Wallet on Android
Tap Add to Google Wallet and save the card. It then sits in Google Wallet with your other passes.
The Trust also emails you a link to add the card, and you can download it again from My Account whenever you need to.
Using the digital card on a visit
- Open Apple Wallet or Google Wallet when you arrive and show the card at reception.
- Screenshots are not accepted, and neither is the card shown from a browser or email. It has to come from Apple Wallet or Google Wallet.
- The card opens without signal once it is in your wallet, so it still works at places with poor reception.
- Many National Trust car park machines scan the QR code on the card. Some older machines cannot, so keep the JustPark app handy for those.
Before you switch from the physical card
- A membership has either physical cards or digital cards, not both. Every adult on a joint or family membership uses the same type.
- If a physical card was already being printed when you switched, it may still arrive. The Trust asks you to cut it up and recycle it.
- To go back to a physical card, call the Trust on 0344 800 1895. The digital card is cancelled straight away and a temporary pass is emailed to you while the new card is on its way.
- The Trust says it has no plans to phase out physical cards. Going digital is a choice, not a requirement.
Treat the QR code on the Add card to wallet page like the card itself. Anyone who scans it may be able to add your card to their phone, so never share a screenshot of that page.
National Trust digital card questions
Can I add my National Trust membership card to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet?
Yes. Sign in to My Account on the National Trust website, open My memberships and choose Add card to wallet. Scan the QR code with your iPhone camera for Apple Wallet, or tap Add to Google Wallet on Android.
Is the National Trust getting rid of physical membership cards?
No. The Trust says it has no plans to phase out physical cards. The digital card is an alternative, not a replacement.
Can I show a screenshot of my National Trust membership card?
No. The card must be shown from Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. Screenshots are not accepted, and neither is the card opened from a browser or email.
Do I need phone signal to use the digital membership card?
No. Once the card is in your wallet it opens without an internet connection, so it works in car parks and at remote places with no reception.
Can I keep my physical card and have a digital one as well?
No. A membership has one card type, and every adult on a joint or family membership uses the same type.
How does the second adult on a joint membership get their digital card?
Forward them the email with the card link, or they can register for their own My Account and download the card from there.
Can National Trust life members use the digital card?
Yes. Life memberships show Add card to wallet in My Account in the same way as annual memberships.
Can I have my membership card on two phones?
No. Each card is active in one digital wallet at a time.
What happens to my digital card when I get a new phone?
Remove the card from the old phone first, then download it again through My Account on the new one.
What if my phone is lost or stolen?
Call the National Trust on 0344 800 1895 as soon as you can. They will disable the card and arrange a replacement.
What happens to the digital card when my membership renews?
The Trust emails your new digital card 3 to 5 days before the renewed membership starts. You can add it straight away, but it only becomes valid when the current membership ends. The old card then moves to your wallet’s archive.
Can children on a family membership visit without the card?
Yes. A child named on a family membership can give the membership holder’s name, date of birth and postcode on arrival.
National Trust for Scotland members
The National Trust for Scotland is a separate charity with its own digital membership card. You set that one up from its My Trust account, not from the National Trust’s My Account, so the steps above do not apply.
