Alfriston Clergy House is a 14th-century thatched Wealden hall house that in 1896 became the very first building acquired by the National Trust, purchased for just £10. This beautifully preserved medieval timber-framed house features a rare chalk and sour milk floor in the hall, and a charming cottage garden filled with traditional plants. Set beside St Andrew's Church on the village green known as the Tye, it provides a delightful picture of rural Sussex life.
