OPW's page lists bicycle parking but names no car park; OpenStreetMap maps a car park beside the centre and Google reports a free lot, so its status is unconfirmed. The centre is 3 km from Kenagh on the Longford to Kenagh road (R357), 15 km from Longford town or from the Mullingar to Lanesboro road (R392). OPW gives no bus service. A smaller bog-walk car park lies about 1 km south.

Hidden away in the boglands of Longford, three kilometres from Kenagh village, is an inspiring relic of prehistory: a togher, or Iron Age road, built of heavy oak planks in 148 BC and known locally as the Danes' Road, the largest of its kind uncovered in Europe. It may have been part of a ceremonial highway linking the Hill of Uisneach, the ritual centre of Ireland, with the royal site of Rathcroghan. The planks soon sank into the peat, which made the road useless but preserved it for two thousand years. Inside OPW's visitor centre an eighteen-metre stretch of the timbers lies on permanent display in a hall specially designed to preserve it, seen on free guided tours with an audio-visual show; reviewers praise the guides. Outside, the county council's easy looped bog walks cover 8.6 kilometres across the heather. The centre opens from mid March to early November; there is no cafe, and dogs are welcome on a lead.

Open 14 March to 4 November 2026, daily 10:00 to 18:00, last admission and final tour at 17:00; closed for the winter from 5 November until the 2027 season. Access to the trackway hall is by guided tour only, included free. Longford County Council lists free Féile na Samhna family events at the centre from 27 October to 1 November 2026, booked in advance.
Toilets, an accessible toilet and a picnic area; no cafe or shop. The looped bog walks (8.6 km in all, with a 1.5 km link to the Royal Canal) start close to the centre and are open at all times.
