Open all year. April to October: daily 9.30am to 6pm; November to March: daily 9.30am to 4pm; closed 24 to 30 December. OPW prints no last admission time, but the fort is about 1 km from the visitor centre over rising ground and an average visit takes 1 to 1.5 hours, so arrive at least an hour before closing. Guided tours run year round; no online booking, so tickets and English Heritage cards are dealt with at the visitor centre desk. Free admission for visitors staying overnight on Inis Mór in participating accommodation, and for everyone on the first Wednesday of each month. Ferry and flight timetables decide most visits; Google's opening time differs from OPW's.
The last section of the path is over rough natural rock with natural stone steps for the final 100 m, and care is needed especially when descending; boots or strong walking shoes are recommended, and there is no fence or barrier at the cliff edge. OPW calls access challenging and limited; the walk is not suitable for wheelchairs, while the refurbished visitor centre (reopened 7 May 2026) has accessibility upgrades, a new exhibition, a multilingual app for self-guided visits and toilets. Dún Aonghasa is a vulnerable national monument: do not interfere with the stonework, and drones are prohibited. A private cafe and craft shops stand beside the visitor centre at Kilmurvey. Card payments accepted.
Dogs: Dogs on a lead are permitted at the site; whether a dog may enter the visitor centre building is not confirmed. Dogs are not allowed on Inis Mór's three waymarked loop walks, including the Lúb Cill Mhuirbhigh loop that passes near the fort.
