Falls of Glomach

The Falls of Glomach drop 113 metres down a narrow cleft in the hills between Kintail and Glen Elchaig, one of the highest waterfalls in Britain and among the most remote. It was the first land in Kintail to come to the National Trust for Scotland, in 1943, and it can only be reached on foot: the main route from the Trust's Morvich car park climbs over the Bealach na Sroine at more than 500 metres, a round trip of about 12 miles and six hours. Reviewers say the walk is long and in places exposed but that the roar and the drop at the lip are unforgettable, and that the final descent to the viewpoint is steep and narrow when wet. Tips from visitors: this is for fit, equipped walkers only, so take a map and compass and check the forecast, there is no phone signal for most of the way, and some approach from Killilan to the north with a bike for the estate track.
