The Trust's page does not say how parking is charged.
Historic Scotland names no parking: the circle is near Daviot, 5 miles north west of Inverurie off the A920. Reviewers park in a small unsurfaced car park shared with a Scout camp, marked by a large carved stone sign, and say satnav is unreliable; no official charge or free statement exists, so the status is recorded as unknown.
Driving pin: the small car park at the foot of the track, 120 m south-west of Historic Scotland's own pin; a short walk up the track leads to the information board and the fenced, mown enclosure on the hilltop. Historic Scotland gives journey planners only.
Loanhead Stone Circle stands on a mown hilltop near Daviot, in the rolling country five miles north-west of Inverurie, and is one of the best examples of a recumbent stone circle, a type found only in north-east Scotland: a ring of upright stones with a massive slab laid on its side between two tall flankers. Built about 4,000 years ago, it was used for burial and ritual from the late Neolithic through the Bronze Age. The circle, about 19.5 metres across, surrounds a ring cairn, and the recumbent frames the moon rising or setting low in the southern sky. Beside it is an enclosed cremation cemetery that held the burials of more than 30 people, some in upturned urns; at its centre a man, only partly cremated, seems to have been clutching a stone pendant. Reviewers say satnav is unreliable: look for the carved stone sign, park in the small car park shared with a Scout camp and walk a short way up the track.
Historic Scotland: 'Loanhead Stone Circle is free to visit and is open year-round.' No hours, closures or notices on 20 October 2026.
A short walk up a track from the car park to the circle and the neighbouring cremation cemetery on mown grass, with information boards; Historic Scotland recommends strong footwear. No toilets or other facilities.
