Murlough National Nature Reserve is one of Ireland's first nature reserves, protecting a fragile sand dune system at the foot of the Mourne Mountains. The dunes are among the oldest in Ireland, dating back 6,000 years, and support rare plants, butterflies, and birds. A boardwalk trail leads through the dunes to a sandy beach with views of the Mournes.
