Open 5 March to 11 November 2026: daily 10am to 6pm with last admission 5.15pm until 28 October, then daily 10am to 5pm with last admission 4.15pm until 11 November; closed for the winter after that, with the 2027 season unpublished. One ticket covers the grounds, gardens and the castle's ground floor; guided tours on request at reception; no online booking. Free admission for everyone on the first Wednesday of each month in season.
Only the ground floor of the castle is open while restoration continues, and OPW lists access as limited, with gravel paths; a wheelchair-accessible toilet, baby changing and WiFi are listed. The courtyard has the tea rooms, a gift shop and an art gallery upstairs, with a picnic area and playground in the grounds. Card payments accepted.
Dogs: Dogs are welcome in Coillte's Portumna Forest Park next door, reached through the tea rooms gate past the friary or from its own entrance off the R352, under effective control or otherwise on a lead; the park has a large fallow deer population and adjoining farmland.
