Sandilands is a former golf course near Sutton-on-Sea that the National Trust has restored as a coastal nature reserve, part of the Lincolnshire Coastal Country Park. Where fairways once lay, new wetlands support migrating and breeding birds, and black-tailed godwits, spoonbills and lapwings are already settling in. In autumn, watch the foreshore for snow buntings, spotted redshanks and ruffs stopping on the East Atlantic Flyway, and look for seals in the waves. Binoculars can be borrowed from the office at the northern tip, where the Flyway Cafe, toilets, a Changing Places facility and a beach toy library sit beside the car park. An accessible path runs through the reserve, and Trampers can be booked in advance. Reviewers are impressed by how quickly the old course is returning to nature. One tip from visitors: there is a second cafe at the far end, a mile and a half along. Dogs are welcome on short leads across the reserve and off the lead on the beach.
The nature reserve and beach are free to visit for everyone. Non-members pay to use the National Trust car park; the tariff is not published.
