The map pin is Brownsham National Trust car park (Google place 'Brownsham National Trust Car Park', EX39 6AN), the Trust's postal address for the property (Rangers office, Brownsham) and the start of the Beckland Woods bluebell walk and the paths to Mouthmill beach. Reach it by minor roads off the A39 between Clovelly and Hartland.
Other National Trust car parks on the property: East Titchberry (EX39 6AU, grid ref SS244270, what3words sues.email.sampled, just before Hartland Point; step-free farm walk and the cliff-top path above Shipload Bay), Exmansworthy (grid ref SS270266) and Welcombe Mouth (grid ref SS212179, down a rough track). Kipling Tors is reached from the free car park on Merley Road, Westward Ho! (not National Trust). There is no vehicle access to Peppercombe Valley; park at Horns Cross or at Bucks Mills.
No toilets on the Trust's land; the nearest are in Hartland, Welcombe, Kilkhampton and Westward Ho!. Buses from Barnstaple and Bideford to Clovelly and Hartland stop at Abbotsham, Peppercombe, Buck's Mills and Clovelly, all within a mile of the coast.
Enter this code in JustPark to pay, or at the machine.
Bideford Bay and Hartland is the National Trust's long run of North Devon coast between Westward Ho! and Welcombe: rugged cliffs, waterfalls, wooded valleys and small shingle beaches threaded by the South West Coast Path. From Brownsham, home to rare marsh fritillary butterflies, paths drop through the woods to Mouthmill beach; at East Titchberry a short step-free loop round the 15th-century farm looks over Shipload Bay to Lundy. Peppercombe Valley, reached only on foot, holds orchids, deer and badgers, while Kipling Tors above Westward Ho! is where Rudyard Kipling and his schoolfriends escaped to read and smoke, the setting of Stalky and Co. Reviewers single out the bluebells at Brownsham, a beach waterfall with stepping stones, and trails suited to small children. Tips from visitors: wear sturdy boots, since every valley means a climb, and set up the JustPark app before arriving. Dogs are welcome under close control, with cattle and sheep grazing some routes. The four-mile Peppercombe Bothy circular walk links wooded valleys, quiet lanes and the coast path.
Open coast and countryside, dawn to dusk every day; the Trust's calendar shows the property open on every day to 31 December 2026 with no closures.
Undulating and uneven ground, steep in places, with steps and stiles on most routes. No toilets. The cliff top is accessible from the car park at East Titchberry, where the farm walk is step free with benches. A Brownsham car park visual story and a full accessibility guide are linked from the Trust's page.
Dogs are welcome under close control on the Trust's trails; grazing cattle and sheep may be met on the East Titchberry to Exmansworthy route.
Trail pages advise using the Peppercombe woodland route only in daylight and not in windy conditions, and that paths are slippery when wet.
