Cotehele is a remarkably complete Tudor manor built between 1485 and 1627 by the Edgcumbe family on the steep wooded Cornish bank of the River Tamar above Calstock. Its rooms are still hung with tapestries, lit by daylight and log fires rather than electricity, and furnished with armour and pieces original to the house. Terraced gardens drop into a valley garden, and woodland paths lead to a chapel in the woods and down to Cotehele Quay, where the Tamar sailing barge Shamrock is moored; a short walk along the Morden stream reaches Cotehele Mill, still grinding flour, with craftspeople in the workshops. Play areas by the main car park and at the quay suit families; dogs go on short leads in parts of the garden but not in the house. Reviewers praise the atmosphere, the friendly volunteers and the Barn Cafe. Tips from visitors: the brown signs thin out on the narrow lanes, and drive down to the quay car park rather than walking, as the climb back is steep.
Following post-storm checks, Cotehele will be open on Saturday 24 October from 10am.

National Trust members visit for free - please remember to bring all membership cards with you. Admission charges apply for non-members, details on our admission prices can be found below. Car Parking All of our car parks are pay and display at Cotehele. National Trust Members can park for free by scanning their membership card at a machine to obtain and then display a ticket in your vehicle, or by registering their National Trust membership card on the JustPark app. For non-members parking is £1.50 for up to 1 hour, £3 for up to 4 hours and £6 for over 4 hours. You can pay by cash at the machine or you can pay via the JustPark app or at Visitor Reception. Due to essential building works, The Edgcumbe Cafe located at Cotehele Quay will be closed until further notice. The Kiosk at the Quay will be open for light refreshments and ice cream on weekends and in October half term.

1.7 miles (2.72km), easy, about 1 hour 15 minutes, in 12 stages. Starts at The Edgcumbe tea-room at Cotehele Quay, following green arrows past the Discovery Centre towards Cotehele Mill. Paths through woodland and along unmade tracks with some steep slopes, muddy in places. Parking at Cotehele Quay car park.

Reachable by the Tamar Valley Line to Calstock station and a 1.5 mile signed walk.

Moderate to steep climbs with uneven ground, not recommended for people with reduced mobility. Toilets at Cotehele Quay and near visitor reception; the Quay Kiosk sells takeaway food and drink.

3.3 miles (5.28km), moderate, about 2 hours, in 18 stages. Starts at Cotehele Quay car park and the Edgcumbe tea room. A challenging route over uneven paths with steep sections and several stiles, slippery in wet weather, so walking boots are advised.
