1 April to 30 September daily 10am to 4.30pm, last entry 4pm; 1 October to 31 March Tuesday to Saturday 10am to 4pm, last entry 3.15pm, closed Sundays and Mondays; closed 25 December to 4 January. The Abbey Church is a working Church of Scotland church and closes for services and events, which can affect access to Robert the Bruce's tomb: on Friday 30 October 2026 the church closes from 11.30am to 2.15pm with the nave open as normal, and on Thursday 12 November 2026 the whole site opens late at 1.30pm. Free timed tickets are recommended.
The palace ruins are closed while conservation work continues and can be seen from street level; the nave, church and grounds are open. The nave is reached through the graveyard on tarmac paths with three steep stone steps at the door (contact the site ahead for level access); the church has level access at its north-east door. No visitor toilets: toilets, adapted toilets and a Changing Places toilet are 100 m away at Carnegie Library.
Dogs: Dogs are welcome in the outdoor areas (grounds and graveyard), not in the roofed nave or the Abbey Church; no lead rule is stated.
