Gawthorpe Hall is an Elizabethan gem set on the banks of the River Calder near Burnley, restored in the 1850s by Sir Charles Barry of Houses of Parliament fame. The house contains the Rachel Kay-Shuttleworth textile collection, one of the most important in Europe. The grounds include a formal parterre garden and woodland walks along the river.
