Parking details

MNH's House of Manannan Access Guide 2024 (read 17 October 2026): 'The House of Manannan has a large car park to the rear of the building which is free to access', with three disabled bays about 100 m from the main entrance and a dropped kerb; two more disabled bays and a loading bay at the front of the building; an overflow car park with an uneven unsurfaced area towards the rear of Mill Road, also used by coaches; and free street parking around the House of Manannan and Peel (double yellow lines nearby, on which Blue Badge holders may not park on the Isle of Man). Group visits PDF: coming down Station Hill, go straight on through the traffic lights and turn right for the car park, or left before the kipper house for the coach park.

Driving pin: the official MNH page pin (54.2221883, -4.6974573), which reverse-geocodes to 14 Lake Lane and lies 26 m from the Google listing at Station Place; the car park is behind the building on the Mill Road side and has no listing of its own, so the building pin is the arrival point and the satnav address is Mill Road, IM5 1TA.

Transport: a bus stop immediately outside the main entrance (drop-off on the Douglas route only; the main Peel bus stop by the cathedral and Town Hall is a 10 minute walk up a steep incline); buses 4, 4B, 5, 5C, 6 and 6A; Douglas to Peel about 25 minutes.

About

The House of Manannan, Thie Vanannan, is a purpose-built heritage centre on Peel's quayside, cared for by Manx National Heritage; it is a separate visit from Peel Castle 500 m away, with its own admission. The sea god Manannan narrates a walk through two thousand years of Manx life: a legend told in an Iron Age roundhouse, a Viking Age longhouse, the treasures of a Viking kingdom, and Odin's Raven, the replica longship that sailed from Norway in 1979. Upstairs the port of Peel in the 1800s is recreated with a sailmaker's loft, a chandler's shop and a quayside, then galleries on Manx mariners, fishing, smuggling and the Steam Packet Company. Reviewers compare it to the Jorvik centre, find it good for children, allow a couple of hours and like the Coffee Station cafe, though one felt the interactive displays are showing their age. Tips from visitors: coach parties can slow the route, so arrive early, and the free car park is behind the building off Mill Road.
