Kit's Coty House and Little Kit's Coty House are the remains of two Neolithic burial monuments built nearly 6,000 years ago in the Medway Valley. At the larger site, three upright sarsens support a massive capstone, preserving the chamber that once stood at the end of a long burial mound. Its smaller neighbour, also called the Countless Stones, survives as a scattered group after being pulled down around 1690. Together they make a compact introduction to the monuments left by some of Britain's earliest farming communities. Visitors to Little Kit's Coty highlight the atmosphere and interpretation, but warn about the busy road approach. Follow the official route from the North Downs Way steps on Chatham Road; the two sites are roughly 500 metres apart. Parts of the onward road have no pavement, so take particular care. Dogs on leads are welcome at both monuments.
