1 April to 31 October daily 10am to 4.30pm, last entry 30 minutes before closing; closed 1 November to 31 March. Notice on 20 October 2026: closed from Tuesday 20 October up to and including Friday 23 October, no reason given; reviewers in 2026 also found it shut on advertised days, so check Historic Scotland's page before setting out. The castle can be seen from the park, the beach and the coastal path when its enclosure is closed.
Only the exterior can be viewed; there is no access to the interior. The drawbridge is closed and the castle is reached by walking down embankments to the moat and climbing the staircase in it. No toilets, cafe or shop on site; the Harbourmaster's House cafe is at Dysart harbour along the Fife Coastal Path.
