Free for everyone; tickets are issued only on Saturday mornings from 09:30 at the Phoenix Park Visitor Centre, first come first served, with no group or advance booking. No membership card is needed.
The Trust's page does not say how parking is charged.
There is no public access to the house by car: tickets are issued at the Phoenix Park Visitor Centre, signposted from the Phoenix Monument, and OPW's free bus takes tour-goers from there to the Áras. The Visitor Centre car park opens at 07:30 and closes an hour before dark; no tariff or free statement is published. Dublin Bus 99 from Parkgate Street (by Heuston Station and the Luas red line) runs every 30 minutes from 09:00 to 18:00 to the Visitor Centre, stopping at Áras an Uachtaráin on the way. Designated accessible parking spaces at the Áras itself.

Áras an Uachtaráin, the official residence of the President of Ireland in the Phoenix Park, started life as a modest brick house built in 1751 for the park's chief ranger. It grew into a sizeable and elegant mansion as an occasional residence of the lord lieutenant, and the Irish architect James Hoban is said to have modelled the White House's facade on its garden portico. After independence the governor general lived here, and the first president, Douglas Hyde, took up residence in 1938; it has been home to every president since. The house is seen only on OPW's free Saturday guided tours of an hour and a quarter, taking in the main reception rooms and, in summer, the garden. Free tickets are issued at the Phoenix Park Visitor Centre from 09:30 on the morning, first come first served, with no advance booking, and a free bus carries visitors to the house; arrive early for the first tour. The tours are fully wheelchair accessible and no photography is allowed inside.
Tours run on Saturdays only, from mid January to the end of December, at 10:00, 11:15, 12:30, 13:45 and 15:00, each lasting an hour and fifteen minutes; no tours on Saturday 21 November 2026. Free tickets are issued at the Phoenix Park Visitor Centre on Saturday mornings only from 09:30, first come first served, and visitors are advised to arrive early; group and advance booking is not possible. As with all Government buildings, tours can be cancelled at short notice for State business, so confirm by phone on 01 677 0095 or by email before travelling. OPW's page also prints 'Summer 10:15 to 16:30, Winter 10:30 to 15:30', which are not daily opening hours.
The main reception rooms feature all year and summer tours also include the garden. Fully wheelchair accessible, with universal toilets, a lift and induction loops in some rooms; buggies can be stored. No photography inside; assistance dogs only.
