Hatfield Forest

Hatfield Forest is one of the finest surviving examples of a medieval royal hunting forest in England, remarkably intact after 1,000 years. The forest contains ancient coppiced woodland, wood pasture, a lake created in the 18th century and an ornamental Shell House. It is home to great crested newts, 15 species of bat, purple emperor butterflies and over 1,000 species of beetle. The wide green rides and open plains still reflect its original medieval structure.
