J. W. Evans Silver Factory occupies a row of houses in Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter, where Jenkin William Evans began producing silverware in 1881. Behind the domestic frontage, workshops remain crowded with machinery, dies, tools and unfinished components, recording the specialised trades that supplied the city's jewellery and tableware businesses. Guided tours explain how these closely packed rooms functioned and introduce the people whose skills kept the family firm working. Visitors repeatedly describe the impression that the last shift has only just left, with old machines sitting alongside much more recent paperwork and everyday objects. Booking is essential, including for members, and tours are restricted to visitors aged sixteen and over. Wear flat footwear and be prepared for uneven floors, narrow passages and steep stairs; the full factory tour is unsuitable for people with significant mobility difficulties.
