Packwood House, near Solihull, looks like a Tudor manor but is largely the creation of Graham Baron Ash, who spent the 1920s and 30s filling a 16th-century farmhouse with salvaged panelling, tapestries and Jacobean furniture, before giving it to the National Trust in 1941. The result is an idealised Tudor home with a long gallery and a great hall made out of a former barn. Outside is the famous Yew Garden, begun in the 17th century by the Fetherston family and said to represent the Sermon on the Mount, its clipped yews climbing to a spiral path around the mound at the top. Three waymarked walks start nearby, among them a 5-mile route to Baddesley Clinton, and dogs on leads may use the estate footpaths but not the house or gardens. Reviewers also enjoy the pond, lake and kitchen garden, the plants for sale and the knowledgeable room staff. Tips from visitors: collect a timed house ticket at reception on arrival; there are steps into the Yew Garden, and the upper floors of the house can be viewed on a tablet if stairs are a problem; and the cafe gets very busy.
SITE CLOSED: Due to the forecast of high winds and storm conditions, the whole site will be closed on Sunday 25 October. Site will open, with some partial closures, at 11am on Monday 26 October following essential post-storm safety inspections

Please head to the Visitor Reception when you arrive and before you access the parkland. Prices are for pay-as-you go visitors. National Trust members do not need to pay admission prices. We occassionally run additional events and trails which are not included in the membership or admission price. Prebooking is not needed, but group bookings of 15+ people must be made in advance. Please contact packwoodhouse@nationaltrust.org.uk to book your group visit.
The house, gardens and grounds at Packwood are open every day of the week. House opening is 11.00am subject to volunteer availability, if there are low volunteer numbers the house may only be accessible via guided tour, timed ticket only (not bookable), last entry will be half hour before closing time stated. Kitchen Garden and Formal Garden: open at 9am. Yew garden is open at 12, via guided tour during winter months. The house will be closed on 26 November for Christmas set up and 5 January 2027 for Christmas take down. Everything closed 16 and 17 March, 16 November and 24 and 25 Dec.
