Lullingstone Roman Villa

Lullingstone Roman Villa reveals how a wealthy household developed over three centuries beside the Darent Valley. Begun around AD 100, the villa included a heated bath suite and an underground cult room decorated with paintings of water deities. Its surviving remains are protected inside a modern building, but conservation work currently limits access to the ruins themselves. Visitors can instead look down through a viewing window, meet volunteers and explore the temporary interpretation, with the main page explaining the changing arrangements. Recent reviewers particularly value the volunteers' knowledge when the usual route is unavailable. The temporary exhibition is upstairs without a lift, so contact the site before travelling if stairs present a difficulty.
