Mortehoe is the gateway to a wild stretch of North Devon coast with a long history of wrecking and smuggling. Its centrepiece is Morte Point, a rocky headland given to the National Trust by the Chichester family, where a small circular stone seat marks the centenary of the Trust's care in 2009. From the point there are panoramic views to Lundy and across to Wales, and it is a good place to watch for Atlantic grey seals. Reviewers love spotting seals off the point and the views over Woolacombe Bay, and advise proper walking boots because the paths are rocky, uneven and slippery in the wet. The village car park is council pay and display, and the village has tea rooms and pubs, none run by the Trust. Dogs are welcome under close control. A challenging six-mile circular walk from the village takes in Morte Point, Rockham Bay and the lighthouse at Bull Point.
The National Trust publishes no opening calendar for Mortehoe; Morte Point and Bull Point are reached on footpaths from the village, including the South West Coast Path.
Public toilets are in the main car park (council operated, not National Trust).
The track to Bull Point lighthouse suits pushchairs, with one gate on the way; the path out to Morte Point is fairly flat but uneven in places. The circular coast walk is steep and rocky, with steps.
