Two National Trust car parks: Marine Drive (EX34 7ZZ, JustPark 80508), running parallel to the beach and the last car park on the right as you start up Challacombe Hill, open 08:00 to 17:00 in the autumn calendar, with a 6-metre vehicle length limit, four 22kW RAW Charging electric vehicle points, cycle parking, the Porthole cafe (not NT) and seasonal toilets; and Woolacombe Down (EX34 7HL, JustPark 80714, what3words slicer.talkative.tight, which resolves to 51.1597, -4.194509), at the top of Challacombe Hill behind the dunes, open dawn to dusk. Both use JustPark and payment machines for member check-in and non-member payment; National Trust members park free. The Trust publishes no non-member tariff on its page, so the charge is recorded as unknown; one reviewer paid £10 for a day at Marine Drive.
Driving pin: Google's 'Marine Dr, Woolacombe EX34 7BG' parking entry at 51.1675758, -4.2056933, which sits about 110 m from the centre of the National Trust trail grid square SS458433 for Marine Drive car park. The NT place coordinate (51.178733, -4.167389) is on the B3343 inland near Mullacott and is not used. The Google listing 'National Trust - Woolacombe' is the Trust's office at Combe Heights, Woolacombe Rise, not a car park.
Buses 303 (Barnstaple to Woolacombe) and 31/31a (Ilfracombe to Woolacombe); Barnstaple station about 13 miles. A Tramper all-terrain scooter can be booked through the Woolacombe Tourist Information Centre on 01271 870553 for three marked routes across the beach, the dunes and Combesgate valley.

Woolacombe Sands, three miles of surfing beach backed by dunes on the North Devon coast, was given to the National Trust in 1909 by Rosalie Chichester of Arlington Court in memory of her parents. The Trust cares for the beach, the dunes of Woolacombe Warren, Woolacombe Down and Potters Hill behind them, and the Marine Drive car park along the sands. Surfing arrived in the early 1900s, the young Agatha Christie among its 1920s enthusiasts, and in 1943 the beaches trained American troops for D-Day. The dunes shelter orchids, adders, lizards, stonechats and linnets, with red ruby cattle and Exmoor ponies grazing the Down. Reviewers describe Marine Drive as a huge car park with sea views, a cafe halfway along and an easy walk through the dunes to the beach. One tip from visitors: the 6-metre vehicle length limit is measured at the entrance. Dogs are welcome under close control on the beach and dunes. The one-mile beach walk loops from Marine Drive through the dunes and along the sand.
The National Trust calendar lists the countryside and Woolacombe Down car park as open dawn to dusk and Marine Drive car park 08:00 to 17:00 every day to the end of 2026.
Marine Drive car park has a 6-metre restriction on vehicle length.
Uneven ground; the furthest beach entrance (away from the town) is easier to access. Accessible toilet at the Porthole cafe; designated parking, level access to the food outlet, ramped access, seating and wheelchairs available. Trampers can be hired through the Tourist Information Centre.
Dogs are welcome under close control on the beach walk and dunes; on leads through the caravan site on the Combesgate walk and on the Ilfracombe Torrs walk. A National Trust dog bin and bench stand at the top of the dunes below Marine Drive.
