Open coast and countryside with no admission charge; free for everyone.
The Trust's page does not say how parking is charged.
The National Trust has no car park here and says only 'Parking: Car park in Penmaen (not NT)'. The map pin is the roadside parking area on the A4118 in Penmaen beside the St John the Baptist bus stop and church, which Google lists as 'Free Parking Three Cliffs Bay' (SA3 2HE). No official tariff is published, so the charge is recorded as unknown.
Reviewers warn that satnav and Google Maps lead down a narrow dead-end lane with a sign telling drivers not to follow satnav; they advise turning off in Penmaen in front of the church and parking just after the cattle grid, or using the holiday park car park further along, then walking down to the burrows.
No toilets. Gower Explorer buses 117 and 118 stop at Penmaen; Swansea station is 10 miles away.
Penmaen Burrows and Nicholaston Burrows lie between Three Cliffs Bay and Oxwich Bay on the south coast of Gower, a stretch of heathland, woodland, sand dunes and cliff tops in National Trust care. Penmaen Burrows holds the remains of a Neolithic burial chamber, a Norman ringwork and a medieval church, and a village called Stedwarlango may lie buried beneath its sandy plateau. The dunes at Nicholaston Burrows carry bloody cranesbill, pyramidal orchids and many lichens, common lizards live among the invertebrates, and Notthill is a small patch of recovering heathland that fills with bluebells in spring. The cliff top above Penmaen Burrows looks straight across Three Cliffs Bay. Reviewers come for that view, hunt for the overgrown burial chamber and describe a long walk down to the beach. Tips from visitors: do not follow satnav down the narrow dead-end lane, park in Penmaen near the church and walk in, and expect no toilets or cafe. Dogs are welcome on leads, with livestock grazing the burrows.
Open countryside, dawn to dusk every day; the National Trust calendar shows no closed days to 31 December 2026.
No National Trust car park and no toilets. The walk crosses a varied landscape of heath, woodland, dunes and cliff tops on unmade paths, with a long descent to the beach.
Dogs are welcome on leads; livestock graze the burrows.
