Quarry Bank is one of Britain's greatest industrial heritage sites, centred on a Georgian cotton mill in the wooded Bollin Valley at Styal. Founded by Samuel Greg in 1784, the mill retains working textile machinery powered by Europe's most powerful waterwheel. The Apprentice House reveals the harsh lives of child workers, while the surrounding estate includes gardens and riverside walks.
