Sibsey Trader Windmill

Sibsey Trader Windmill rises above the Lincolnshire fens, a six-sailed brick tower built in 1877 for miller William Clapham. Designed by the Saunderson millwrights of Louth, it processed local wheat, barley and oats into flour and animal feed until commercial working ended in the 1950s. Its height and breadth provided room for several pairs of millstones, while the rotating cap directed the sails into the wind. English Heritage's conservation work has restored the sails, fantail and cap, allowing visitors to understand the mill as a working system rather than an empty shell. Reviewers enjoy the machinery and views, but repeatedly advise checking opening dates before travelling because access is limited. The upper levels involve steep, ladder-like stairs, so this is a demanding interior for anyone with mobility difficulties. A small gravel parking area lies close to the entrance; confirm current access arrangements and available facilities when planning your visit.
