Brinkburn Priory stands in a wooded bend of the River Coquet, with a medieval church restored in the Victorian period rather than left as a roofless ruin. Its stone arches and lofty interior sit alongside colourful later fittings, giving the building a different character from many monastic sites. A 19th-century manor house occupies the neighbouring site of the former monastic buildings. Reviewers particularly enjoy the contrast between the restored church and the house, and the quiet riverside setting. The woodland approach from the car park forms part of the visit, descending for roughly 400 metres before reaching the buildings.
