Coventry Charterhouse

Founded in 1381 and one of just nine Carthusian monasteries ever established in England, Coventry Charterhouse is a Grade I listed survivor holding the country's only intact medieval Carthusian interior, where the Prior's Cell and refectory carry medieval and Tudor wall paintings ranked among the finest in Britain. Rescued and restored by Historic Coventry Trust, it has been run by the National Trust since 2025 as the charity's first Coventry site, its walled garden and riverside meadows along the Sherbourne feeling worlds away from the city centre barely 1.5 miles off. Reviewers praise the knowledgeable volunteers and rate the cafe well above the usual visitor fare.
