Felbrigg Hall

Felbrigg Hall, two miles from Cromer, is one of the most elegant country houses in East Anglia, a 17th-century house with Georgian interiors given to the National Trust in 1969 by its last squire, R.W. Ketton-Cremer, with one of the Trust's largest collections. Inside are the stained glass of the Great Hall, the Gothic library, the Chinese Bedroom and the Grand Tour pictures of the Cabinet Room. The Walled Garden mixes double flower borders, vegetable beds, trained fruit trees and an octagonal dovecote, with hens roaming free, while the free-to-visit 520-acre estate has a lake, an 18th-century ice house and the Victory V avenues in the Great Wood. A 2.6-mile walk from the main car park loops past the church and ice house through the estate's fields and woods. Reviewers praise the occasional attic and cellar tours, the Squire's Pantry tea-room and the mobility scooters to borrow. Tips from regulars: parking is pay and display through the JustPark app, so set it up before you arrive as phone signal is poor, and dogs are welcome on the estate but not in the house or gardens.
