Lindisfarne Priory

Access continues beneath scaffolding at neighbouring St Mary’s Church during repairs. Opening hours vary by date with the tides; never use the priory timetable as a safe causeway-crossing window.

Tide-dependent date-specific opening: 10 September 9am-noon, 11 September 9am-12:30pm, 12 September 9:30am-1pm and 13 September 10am-2pm. Later dates vary substantially; check the official calendar and council safe-crossing guidance for each journey.

EH members receive free standard admission with their membership card. National Trust membership alone does not cover admission. Advance booking is optional for ordinary admission; special events may differ.

Five steps on the usual approach to the ruins; an alternative step-free entrance is available. Grass, gravel and a slope remain. Three accessible spaces beside the accessible entrance require advance reservation. General visitors should use the village visitor car park.

Parking: Use the independently charged Holy Island Chare Ends visitor car park outside the village and walk to the priory. EH membership does not cover council parking. Current tariff not confirmed. Check safe causeway crossing times for arrival and departure.

Dogs at the location: Allowed with restrictions. Dogs on leads are welcome at the priory. The facilities page does not specify any additional museum or shop exclusions; confirm detailed indoor arrangements with staff.

Dog walks in the grounds: Allowed with restrictions. Dogs may explore the permitted visitor grounds subject to the visitor-access restrictions above; ordinary admission or eligible membership applies.

Dog walks in the surrounding area: Allowed with restrictions. From Holy Island village walk towards Lindisfarne Castle and follow the two castle-field paths towards the Gertrude Jekyll Garden, or the road around the north side towards the lime kilns. These outdoor walks are separate from priory and castle interior admission. Use the charged village visitor car park and check causeway crossings both ways. Dogs must be on short leads for sheep, lambs and nesting birds; give the fenced plover nesting area beside the lime kilns space. No pet dogs inside the castle.

Leads: Keep dogs on leads in permitted visitor areas. Keep clear of livestock and wildlife; site-specific livestock restrictions beyond the stated rules are not confirmed.

Seasonal dog restrictions: Short leads are required on nearby castle-field paths for livestock and ground-nesting birds. Give the fenced nesting area by the lime kilns space; no precise seasonal dates are stated. Additional seasonal exclusions at the priory are not confirmed.

Assistance dogs: Assistance dogs are welcome according to EH access guidance. Contact the site about specific inaccessible areas or equipment.
