Montacute House is one of the finest Elizabethan mansions in England, built in the 1590s from local Ham Hill stone with a magnificent Long Gallery — the longest in the country. The house displays an outstanding collection of Tudor and Elizabethan portraits on loan from the National Portrait Gallery. The formal gardens include mixed borders, a raised walkway, and an 18th-century landscape park.
