The map pin is the house itself on the lane through Muchelney, opposite the parish church and beside the English Heritage abbey ruins; the Trust's pin, the Google listing and a Geocoding search for the address all agree within 15 m.
The Priest's House at Muchelney is a late medieval hall-house built in 1308 for the parish priest of the church opposite, and little altered since the early 17th century. Its thatched roof, Gothic doorway and tall double-height tracery windows face the village lane, and inside the hall is a massive 15th-century stone fireplace, which one visitor marvels was cut from a single piece of stone. The house is a private home with a live-in custodian, so it opens for only a short season each year; the rooms are small, accessibility is limited, and there are no toilets and no designated parking. Reviewers describe a tiny house packed with interesting history, brought to life by a knowledgeable guide, and recommend combining it with the church across the road and the English Heritage abbey ruins next door, where one party watched a grass snake. One tip from visitors: check the open days on the Trust's website before travelling, and park on the road outside, which they say is easy.
Closed for the 2026 season. The Trust's notice reads 'Priest's House has now closed for 2026. We look forward to welcoming you back in 2027.' The calendar shows the Medieval Hall closed on every day to 31 December 2026; 2027 open days had not been published on 15 October 2026.
The house is a private home that opens for a short season on selected days only. Reviewers advise checking the open days on the Trust's website before travelling.
No toilets, no designated parking and limited accessibility; a Priest's House access statement is linked from the Trust's page. The Trust flags a Braille, large-print or audio guide as available.
