Mount Grace Priory is the best-preserved Carthusian monastery in England, founded in 1398 in the foothills of the North York Moors. The ruins reveal the individual monks' cells with their own gardens and water supply, reflecting the Carthusian order's emphasis on solitary contemplation. One cell has been reconstructed and furnished to show how the monks lived. The site is managed by English Heritage with the surrounding land in National Trust care.
