Cadw lists no designated parking. Visitors park on the road near St Cybi's church in Llangybi, where space can be short, enter the churchyard by the step stile, go round the church to the stile in the far corner, keep left down the field with the wall on the left to a second stile and stone steps down to the well; the slope is slippery after rain. Cadw's own directions point to a road south of the well, from which stiles and a marshy field on a rugged stone causeway lead in.
Driving pin: Llangybi church, 159 m from Cadw's marker on the well, the start of the walk visitors describe. Cadw publishes no postcode; Google gives LL53 6LZ. By road: 2.3 miles north of Chwilog, off the B4354. National Cycle Network route 8 passes 4.2 km away.
St Cybi's Well, Ffynnon Gybi, is a hidden holy well with possible pagan origins, nestled among trees in a secluded spot at the base of Garn Bentyrch in Eifionydd. Dedicated to Cybi, a 6th-century saint reputed to have lived in the area, the well's waters have long been believed to hold healing properties, and its sacred status may be pre-Christian. Today you can see two well chambers, the main well house with a corbelled dome over a sunken bathing tank, beside the roofless 18th-century cottage built to house the pilgrims and its small detached latrine. Reviewers find it peaceful and almost secluded, a short walk through trees by a stream with an information panel, and a good picnic spot. Tips from visitors: park near Llangybi church, cross the churchyard by the step stile and follow the field down over a second stile, slippery after rain, with a marshy field crossed on a stone causeway. Dogs on short leads are welcome.
Open all year during reasonable daylight hours; no admission charge. Cadw asks visitors to come in daylight for safety and may close monuments at short notice in extreme weather. A place of pilgrimage, so treat the protected site with respect.
Terrain level 2, easy by Cadw's rating, but the approach needs stiles and a marshy field on a rugged stone causeway, so it is unsuitable for wheelchairs; the ground may be slippery or muddy, there is deep water in the well tank, and grazing animals may be on the neighbouring farmland. An information panel at the entrance. No toilets or facilities. Drones are not permitted.
Dogs: Dogs on short leads are welcome at the well, which is all at ground level; the approach has stiles.
