Stoneywell is a remarkable Arts and Crafts cottage in Charnwood Forest, designed by the Leicester architect Ernest Gimson in 1899 for his brother Sydney. Built of local stone and slate, the cottage appears to grow organically from the rocky outcrop on which it sits, with rooms at different levels following the contours of the ground. The cottage remained in the Gimson family for over a century, its interior virtually unchanged, preserving an authentic example of Arts and Crafts domestic life. The surrounding woodland garden is rich with bluebells in spring.
