Thornborough Henges is a group of three enormous prehistoric earthworks on a plateau above the River Ure. Built about 4,500 years ago, the circular banks formed part of a ceremonial landscape that remained important into the early Bronze Age. Their scale becomes clearer as you approach the entrances and look across the enclosed spaces, while the wooded northern henge has a different character from its open neighbours. Visitors appreciate the interpretation boards and recommend allowing time to see more than one monument. Official footpaths connect the approaches, with parking arrangements differing between the northern henge and the central and southern pair. Stay off the earthwork banks and respect any conservation barriers. The grassy surfaces can be uneven, and dogs must remain on short leads because sheep, including pregnant ewes, graze the fields.

Limited lay-by parking beside the central and southern henge gates, grid reference SE 28635 79363. For the northern henge use Nosterfield Nature Reserve car park off Moor Lane, then the public footpath. Do not park on the roadside by the northern henge. Tariffs not confirmed.
