Abereiddi to Abermawr is a wild twelve-mile run of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path where the Trust cares for beaches, cliffs and the ruins of old industry. Its best-known feature is the Blue Lagoon at Abereiddi, the main quarry of the St Brides Slate Company, worked until 1910 and flooded when its channel to the sea was blasted; the slate gives the water its brilliant aqua colour. Further along lie Abercastle's limekilns and the quiet shingle bay at Abermawr, which Brunel once chose for a cable and railway terminus. Reviewers single out the cliff jumps into the lagoon, which the Trust closes each autumn while grey seals raise their pups. Tips from visitors: the beach car park is not the Trust's, charges apply and it fills quickly in summer. Dogs are welcome under close control, on a short lead near the coast in seal season. The Trust's 4-mile circuit from Porthgain follows the cliffs to the lagoon.
The Blue Lagoon is closed while grey seals and their pups are present, and Traeth Llyfn also closes from 26 September; the Trust says both reopen on Saturday 7 November. The lagoon closes for breeding seals from mid-September each year.
The Trust's calendar marks the coastline closed until 31 October and open dawn to dusk from 1 November; the Pembrokeshire Coast Path is a National Trail.
Public toilets (not National Trust) in Porthgain, Abereiddi, Abercastle and Trefin. Steep access to the coast path; steps and a bridge to the Blue Lagoon.
Open coast, free for everyone. Parking is in non-Trust car parks where charges apply, including for members.
Arrive on foot, by bike or by public transport.
No National Trust car parks. There are non-Trust car parks at Abereiddi and Porthgain Harbour where charges apply; the Abereiddi car park has a very uneven stone surface. Limited parking at Abercastle and Abermawr Woods; at Abermawr, turn at the end of the lane and park on the verge.
Pin set on the Abereiddi beach car park (Google 'Abereiddy Car Park', SA62 6DT), the arrival point for the Blue Lagoon; the Trust's second postcode, SA62 5UX, serves Abermawr.
