Corfe Castle is one of Britain's most iconic ruins, a dramatic Norman fortress perched on a natural chalk hill in the Purbeck Hills. The castle was built by William the Conqueror and later besieged and deliberately demolished by Parliamentarian forces during the English Civil War. The ruins offer commanding views over the surrounding Isle of Purbeck and the village of Corfe Castle below.
