Covering 457 acres of the 3,000-acre Dudmaston Estate near Bridgnorth, Comer Woods is a working woodland whose forestry saved the estate from financial ruin in the 20th century. A network of circular trails runs through woodland, farmland and heath to three pools, Brim, Seggy and Wall, good for spotting wildlife, with options for every pace from gentle strolls to a 10km running trail and a red-grade mountain bike route. Children can play in the natural woodland or try the agility trail near Heath Meadow, and the cafe serves takeaway drinks, snacks and cakes with seating in Heath Barn. Reviewers praise the well-surfaced paths, which suit pushchairs even after rain. An off-road Tramper can be booked a day ahead for the Explorer and Morfe trails. Dogs can run off lead on most trails but stay on leads in the car parks, Heath Meadow and livestock fields. The purple-waymarked Morfe Walk heads from the car park into open countryside.
The woods are free for everyone. Parking charges apply to non-members.
