Blists Hill Victorian Town

Blists Hill Victorian Town brings the 1900s back to life across a whole hillside of the Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site, one of ten museums that passed to the National Trust in 2026. Costumed shopkeepers, a bobby on the beat and craftspeople at work populate a complete recreated town from the East Shropshire coalfield, and children can sit a lesson in the schoolroom, pose for a period portrait in the photography studio or let off steam in the Madeley Wood play area. Reviewers single out the chippy, where the chips are still fried in beef dripping the old way, and the bakery and the New Inn pub keep the town fed and watered. One tip from regular visitors: the woodland trail behind the town is steep in places and hard going with a mobility scooter. Carriage rides and forge demonstrations are returning gradually as restoration continues.
