Flowerdown Barrows preserves three Bronze Age burial mounds on the edge of Littleton, a short distance from Winchester. Around 4,000 years old, they once belonged to a larger cemetery spread across this ridge. Two are bowl barrows, while the broad disc barrow has a low central mound within a circular enclosure and is described by English Heritage as Hampshire's largest and finest example. The interest lies in reading those gentle shapes in the grass and imagining the ceremonies associated with them, rather than exploring a standing building. Visitors who enjoy prehistoric earthworks appreciate the quiet setting, though several find the remains subtle and the interpretation limited. Allow a short stop and locate a legal space on surrounding roads before approaching the entrance at the junction of Main Road, Kennel Lane and Deane Down Drove.
