Framlingham Castle tells the stories of medieval aristocrats, Tudor royalty and the children who later lived in its Georgian poorhouse. The surviving curtain walls form an elevated circuit above the courtyard, with views towards the town, surrounding earthworks and the Mere. Look closely at the Tudor chimneys, each with a different pattern of brickwork. Inside the former workhouse, an exhibition traces the castle's changing uses, while costumes, games and a children's audio tour give families ways into the history. Reviewers especially enjoy the views from the wall walk, the friendly staff and the cafe. Pick up the included audio guide to add context as you explore. The wall walk has steep spiral stairs, and essential winter maintenance may restrict access. Dogs on leads are welcome in the castle and grounds, with an exclusion at the cafe counter; the small car park can fill quickly.

Essential maintenance may close sections of the wall walk during winter. No precise start or end date is given; check before travel.
Open daily 10am-5pm until 24 October, then 10am-4pm from 25 October to 1 November; weekends 10am-4pm from 2 November to 20 December. Christmas dates vary.
