Framlingham Castle

Last admission is normally 30 minutes before closing. Check the date-specific calendar and any notices before travelling.

EH members enter free with their membership card. National Trust membership alone does not cover admission. Advance booking is optional for ordinary visits and can save up to 15%; events may differ.

Loose gravel in the courtyard and rough undulating tracks at the earthworks. A platform lift serves the first floor of the Workhouse; steep spiral stairs lead to the wall walk. Winter conservation can restrict the wall walk.

Parking: Small 30-space car park; free for EH members displaying a valid sticker, charged for non-members. Current tariff not confirmed. Large vehicles cannot be accommodated.

Dogs at the location: Allowed with restrictions. Dogs on leads are allowed in the castle and grounds except at the cafe counter. Assistance dogs are welcome throughout.

Dog walks in the grounds: Allowed with restrictions. Dogs on leads can explore permitted castle grounds during a visit; normal castle admission applies inside. The separate Mere route has its own wildlife rules.

Dog walks in the surrounding area: Allowed with restrictions. Framlingham Mere has a 1.5km circuit with dogs on leads. Reach the signed route from the castle vicinity; castle car parking is separately charged for non-members. The reserve does not require a castle admission ticket. Stay on paths, use a short lead and keep dogs out of the water.

Leads: Keep dogs on leads in the permitted visitor areas. Keep clear of wildlife; additional livestock-specific guidance is not confirmed.

Seasonal dog restrictions: Not confirmed: no separate seasonal dog policy was established. Follow current notices and any temporary exclusions.

Assistance dogs: Assistance dogs are welcome, as stated in the official facilities/access guidance.
