Kyson Hill is a small grassy hill on the edge of Woodbridge, where specimen trees and wooded belts slope down to the saltmarsh and mudflats of the tidal River Deben, a favourite walk for generations of Woodbridge people. A bench by the Trust sign at the top looks out over the estuary, and the shore below is good for birdwatching: wigeon and dunlin in winter, sedge and reed warblers and common terns in summer, with redshanks, little egrets and curlews along the river. Two circular Trust walks from Woodbridge station follow the riverside promenade to the hill; beyond it the shore path towards Kyson Point can be cut off at high tide. Reviewers enjoy the riverside approach and the quiet, but note that trees now hide much of the view. Park at the Broomheath car park rather than following satnav down the private road. Dogs are welcome on leads or under very close control.
NT's calendar lists the countryside as open dawn to dusk.
No toilets on site; the nearest are at Woodbridge station car park and the model boating lake. Uneven terrain, with a steep grass slope and fairly steep steps on the hill; benches available.
Part of the shore path towards Kyson Point can be impassable at high tide; an alternative route is signposted.

Dogs at the location: Allowed. Dogs welcome on leads or under very close control.
Dog walks in the grounds: Allowed. Dogs may walk the hill on leads or under very close control; NT trails also welcome dogs under close control.
Leads: On a lead or under very close control.
Free to visit for everyone. Parking is in a public (non-NT) car park or at Woodbridge station, with any charges set by those operators.
The Trust's page does not say how parking is charged.
No National Trust car park. The NT points to the Broomheath public car park before the railway bridge, about 500 m from the hill (not National Trust); any charge is not published by the NT. Do not follow satnav, which leads down a private road where it is very difficult to turn round.
Driving pin: Google's 'Kyson Hill Car Park' listing at 2 Broomheath, IP12 4DL, about 470 m west of the hill, matching the NT's 'Broomheath public car park, 546 yards'. The NT trails start instead from the pay and display car park at Woodbridge station.
