Glastonbury Tribunal is a late 15th-century stone town house on the High Street, once thought to have been the courtroom of Glastonbury Abbey, though it may simply have housed one of the abbey's officials. Its early 16th-century front, with a projecting first-floor bay, carries the Tudor rose and the badge of Abbot Beer, who died in 1524. Inside, look for the arched fireplace and linenfold panelling in the front room, the panelled ceiling of the main chamber and the Elizabethan kitchen block. Upstairs, beneath an open timber roof, the Glastonbury Lake Village Museum shows wood, iron and bronze finds from an Iron Age village built on an artificial platform in the marshes north of the town. Reviewers praise the friendly, helpful volunteers and the peaceful garden behind the house. Run by Glastonbury Town Council for English Heritage, it has no car park, so use the paid town-centre car parks; the museum floor has no lift, and only assistance dogs are allowed inside.
