Gunwalloe packs thousands of years of history into a stretch of the Lizard coast, where Church Cove and Dollar Cove lie either side of Castle Mound, a Bronze Age burial site and Iron Age fort. Below it stands St Winwaloe's, the Grade I listed Church of the Storms, whose rood screen was made from timber of the St Anthony, wrecked nearby in 1527, and whose churchyard holds shipwrecked sailors and a German Second World War pilot. Dollar Cove is named after silver coins that still wash ashore, said to come from a Spanish ship lost in the 1780s. Behind the beaches lies a reedbed of national importance. Reviewers praise the lifeguarded sands of Church Cove, and the seasonal kiosk sells pasties and ice cream. Dogs can use Dollar Cove all year, but a council ban covers Church Cove during the day in July and August. A family little legs loop and a 2-mile Cliff Castle archaeology walk start from the car park.
The National Trust publishes no opening calendar for Gunwalloe; the beaches and South West Coast Path are open coast.
Kiosk open for the season, 1 April to 31 October; it may close in bad weather. Toilets, including an accessible toilet, are open all year round.
