Mullion Cove's harbour was built in the 1890s at the height of the Cornish pilchard industry, and it still shelters a small fishing fleet from the westerly storms that drive in off the Atlantic onto the Lizard Peninsula. Its ageing walls are under growing pressure from climate change, rising seas and extreme weather, and the Trust is working out how the cove can adapt. On calm days the water turns turquoise between steep cliffs rich in wildlife, so look out for seals and seabirds or see the cove from a kayak. Reviewers enjoy watching the working harbour from its walls, spotting swimmers in the sheltered water and stopping at the cafe by the slipway, though the walk down from the car park is steep. There is no parking at the harbour and no lifeguard cover, with council toilets nearby. Dogs on leads are welcome all year, on the beach when the tide is out and along the harbour wall when it is safe.
NT publishes no opening calendar for this open harbour and cove.
No parking at the harbour; NT gives the minimum walk from parking as about 250 yards, on a steep gradient. No lifeguards on duty.
Council toilets are near the cove. Village roads are not suitable for coaches.
Harbour and coast free for everyone. Parking is not National Trust and charges members and non-members; tariff not confirmed.
The Trust's page does not say how parking is charged.
There is no National Trust car park and no parking at the harbour. NT directs drivers to the nearest car park by postcode TR12 7EP or what3words rentals.prop.beauty; it is not National Trust and charges members too. The tariff was not confirmed from an official source.
The map pin is the public 'Mullion Cove' car park on the road down to the cove (TR12 7EX). NT's what3words point could not be resolved; the smaller Porthmellin car park is slightly closer to the harbour. The walk down to the harbour is steep.
