Kynance Cove on the Lizard peninsula has drawn adventurous tourists for centuries: white sand and turquoise sea broken by dark green serpentine rock stacks, with caves and islands to explore at low tide. The beach lies a third of a mile below the clifftop car park, a ten-minute walk, steep in places, that ends with steps onto the sand below the South West Coast Path. Reviewers rave about the rock formations and huge caves, and there is a concession cafe by the beach. Tips from visitors: arrive early on warm days because the car park fills fast; check the tide times, since high tide leaves little beach and cuts the cafe off except by a long walk over the cliff; members park free but must register; and a council dog ban applies on the beach in high summer. There are no lifeguards.
