Cadw's directions: take the B5109 from Beaumaris towards Pentraeth, after about 3 miles turn right onto the unclassified road to Llanddona, and after 0.75 miles park on the right in a rough pull-in just before the farm entrance lane on the left; the entrance to the pull-in is rough. Nothing is published about charges, so the status is recorded as unknown. Reach the house on foot along the farm lane and through the farmyard, not by the footpath that crosses the road just before the farm; the house stands in private grounds and grazing cattle or farm animals may be about.
Driving pin: Cadw's own what3words point at the pull-in, 5 m from the start of the farm lane, 137 m from its map marker (which falls in a field) and 322 m from the house. National Cycle Network route 5 passes 1.2 km away.
Hafoty Medieval House, Tŷ Canoloesol Hafoty, is an exceptionally well-preserved medieval hall house in farmland near Llansadwrn in south-east Anglesey, viewed from outside. The substantial white-limewashed stone building began as a timber-framed house, probably in the 14th century, and is recorded as Bodiordderch, the house of Iordderch, in 1352. Later encased in stone on an H-shaped plan of two storeys over a semi-basement cut into the rock, it gained a great hall fireplace with a Tudor arch around 1500, inscribed in Latin, if God is with us, who can be against us. It passed through the Norris and Bulkeley families, Henry Norris being constable of Beaumaris Castle in 1535, and by 1585 was described as a summer dairy house, a hafoty, which gave it its name. Restored in the late 20th century, it is Grade I listed. Park in the rough pull-in on the Llanddona lane and walk about 300 metres up the farm lane and through the farmyard; the interior opens only on Cadw's booked summer tours.
Limited opening: currently Hafoty Medieval House can only be viewed externally, with no hours published for the exterior. Cadw opens the interior on selected dates from May to August as part of its booked guided tours programme at £12 (Cadw members £10); the 2026 season has ended. No admission charge to view the outside. Cadw may close monuments at short notice in extreme weather.
Terrain level 3, moderate: a farm lane and working farmyard that may be muddy, with livestock; inside, on tour days, narrow steep steps, high thresholds, low door frames, low light and low ceilings. No toilets or facilities. Drones are not permitted.
