Hindhead Common and the Devil's Punch Bowl form one of the largest areas of open heath in Surrey, a dramatic landscape of purple heather, golden gorse and ancient Scots pine. The Devil's Punch Bowl is a vast natural amphitheatre carved by springs during the last Ice Age, offering spectacular walking routes around its rim and down to the valley floor. Since the opening of the Hindhead Tunnel, the old A3 road has been removed and the common is now reunited for the first time in over a century.
