Kingston Russell Stone Circle is an oval of 18 fallen stones on the Dorset downs above Abbotsbury, dating from the late Neolithic or early Bronze Age. All the stones now lie flat, and some have broken, leaving a low monument that rewards a close look rather than announcing itself from a distance. The setting gives views towards the coast, while the older Grey Mare and Her Colts tomb lies along the approach. Reviewers enjoy the open landscape but describe finding the circle as part of the challenge. Follow English Heritage's directions from the lane towards Gorwell Farm, leaving your vehicle before the cattle grid and continuing on foot. The field-edge approach is about a mile and can be muddy or overgrown, so bring waterproof footwear. Dogs must be kept on leads around grazing cattle. There is no shelter or visitor facility at the circle.
